In two short days, Jayson and I will celebrate one year of marriage. Without hesitation I can say it has been the best year of my life. I am married to not just the best man but the best person I’ve ever known. Almost 5 years ago I walked into a sales meeting at Hansen and Horn and met the most intelligent, confident, honest and selfless person God has ever created.

I think this song is about fear. Fear makes you stay in place. Fear of doing or not doing something to lose love. Jayson, I stayed in fear for 21 years before I met you. And then it all went away the moment we met. For the first time in my life I knew I could love and it would be okay. Thank you for not making me have to be a basket case anymore. Here’s to many, many more years of bliss!

No, I didn’t just make up a big word. Have you heard the Hyundai “Jingle Bell” commercial this season? I was in love with the song and then thought to myself, “why have I not looked them up?” So many small indie artists are getting noticed via tv it seems these days.Their name is Pomplamoose. A girl and a dude. Much like She and Him, but more retro feeling. That’s all I got. Check em out! They’re pretty fun.

A Time for Everything

I realize this post has absolutely nothing to do with music, but I just felt like writing this morning. I went to lunch with some coworkers yesterday who all hate their jobs. Pretty typical. Been there, done that. In addition to working at our company during the day, they all are going back to school or starting side businesses. When I told them I just go home and relax every night, they looked at me like I was crazy. Apparently, I wasn’t doing enough with my life. Using my keen perception skills, I realized my coworkers are among many who are desperately trying to “make something of themselves.” And believe me, there is nothing wrong with that. I think it’s good to constantly try and grow yourself. For instance, right now I have been focused on growing spiritually. But sometimes I just think we go about it in ways that only end up hurting ourselves, like when we are really doing it to prove something to someone else or impress them.

Let me tell you something world….

Sometimes it’s okay to just be you. You were perfectly and wonderfully made. We all need periods to search ourselves and periods of relaxation. I’ve done the whole “work and go to school 24/7.” I’ve been the person who was constantly busy to try and prove to herself and everyone else that she was more. Well, I proved it. And I’m sure sometime in the future I’ll be going back to school and/or possibly working another job. But I won’t be doing it to prove anything to anyone else. I’ll be doing it for my own fulfillment. Right now I’m in a new season of life: rest. I think we should take these opportunities when we can. Life is too short to live it for what someone else wants your life to be. You have to do what will make you happy. I was reading last night and happened to come across this verse. Take a look. The Music of Life Unexpected

Yes, I am a CW fan if you didn’t know. And I am not ashamed to say it, because their shows have THE BEST music. Besides the fantastic music on One Tree Hill, their new show Life Unexpected is not only super cute and puts a smile on my face every week, but the music is great all the way down to their theme song Family Tree by Rain Perry. They’ve really had too many good artists on to hand pick any, so allow me to name a few…. Amy Stroup, Matt Hires, Mike Doughty, Brett Dennen, Peter Bradley Adams and Rosie Thomas. Seriously, this show is on it. Check out the artists below and watch this show!!!

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

I’m positive it’s not just the coffee this morning when I say I am soooo digging this band Phoenix. My brother Josh introduced me to them a couple months ago. I listened to them and for whatever reason didn’t like them. Perhaps because they’re a little hard to understand at times with the french accent. And their lyrics are a little random, but I am all ears today and loving their sound. I went to CWTV Music and low and behold it said to listen to them. I decided today is a good day for second chances and I’m glad I did. Plus, The CW never disappoints in the music department. They are fun and I love Mr. Mars with his sweet, soft voice. I also love that all their songs sound like anthems. They are big and bold. These guys aren’t messing around. Check em out!

Just a quick introduction since this is a new blog. All you really need to know is that I am a music lover and I am going to post new unsigned music that I find right here. Just so you have a feel for what music I’m into, I like Edwin McCain (hence the title of this website), Anita Baker, Lauryn Hill, Ginny Owens, Mindy Smith, The Weepies, 50 cent, Kanye West, Taylor Swift (because she’s so freakin cute) Black Eyed Peas, Regina Spektor, Incubus, the list goes on. I typically listen to Indie or Folk, but as you can see, I am open to other genres as well. Anyways, I hope to like the blog and if you find great music you want me to share, send it my way!
